Very often, the mental health issues we deal with, anxiety, depression, feeling stuck, are caused by a relationship with the environment that is not supporting our needs. Together, we can figure out ways to adjust and negotiate with the environment inside and outside in a way that leaves you feeling like the confident captain of your own ship.
Specifically, with my social work education, I blend practical advice on navigating resources and benefits alongside providing therapy.
I believe in working together and learning from one-another to find unique, and authentic pathways through life’s challenges that are in line with your values, intentions, hopes, and strengths.
My therapeutic style is characterized by the following themes:
Integration of ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) Principles: Finding and centering what is most important to you and building skills to align your actions with your values.
Integration of Narrative Therapy Principles: We often judge ourselves by the story of our life that we tell ourselves. I emphasize seeing what factors have influenced this story; how we can reauthor the past, and author the future to be kinder.
Anti-Oppression and Strength-Based Lens: We do not live separate from our environment. I consistently point out your strengths, especially against situations where the cards have been stacked against you.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Principles: How we perceive situations affects how we feel about them, and how we respond. We can investigate the tough situations of life and fine-tune how they are being responded to.
Authenticity: Therapy is about you, and the time belongs to you. That being said, I come to you as a whole person with my own personality. I prioritize a natural, friendly atmosphere for growth over a cold clinic.
My experience in the mental health sector includes work with people experiencing intersections of neurodiversity (Autism/ADHD), physical disabilities, and housing instability. I also have more than five years of experience supporting post-secondary students in balancing life and wellness.
Outside of work, I’m a rock climber, weightlifter, and Toronto foodie. I’m also a proud nerd! Star Wars and Lord of the Rings are my favourites.
