Kayla James MA, RP(Q)

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

With over 10 years of experience in the mental health field, Kayla James is passionate about supporting individuals through a wide range of challenges. She believes deeply in each client’s capacity for growth and resilience, and her work is guided by a trauma-informed approach that fosters safety, empowerment, and meaningful change at each person’s own pace.

As a first-generation Caribbean-Canadian, Kayla has a special interest in supporting new immigrants and first-generation individuals as they navigate the complexities of cultural identity, adjustment, and belonging. She strives to create a space where clients feel truly seen, understood, and supported as they connect with their strengths.

Kayla holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Care from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson). Her therapeutic style is collaborative and integrative, drawing on evidence-based approaches to meet each client’s unique needs and goals.

If you work with me, here’s what you might begin to notice over time:

  • You start to feel less overwhelmed and more grounded.

  • You gain clarity around your emotions and how to express them.

  • You begin to feel more connected in your relationships.

  • You learn to set boundaries that feel right for you.

  • You find yourself coping with stress in healthier ways.

  • You begin to feel hopeful again—even if you haven’t in a while.

herapy isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about creating a space where we can ask the right questions—together. I believe healing begins with compassion: for your experiences, your identity, and the path you’ve taken to get here.

In our work together, I’ll help you better understand how past experiences, losses, and patterns may be showing up in your current life. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, family conflict, or life transitions, we’ll build practical tools that support your growth and emotional well-being.

You don’t have to do this alone. Together, we’ll explore how to move through pain, strengthen relationships, and find a renewed sense of purpose and self-trust.

My clients often say they feel seen, heard, and supported in our sessions. I bring over 15 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families, and my approach is warm, nonjudgmental, and culturally responsive. I draw on evidence-based, trauma-informed practices—including cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, narrative therapy, and emotion-focused approaches—to meet you where you are.

I have a particular passion for supporting people navigating separation, divorce, and high-conflict coparenting. These transitions can be painful—but they can also be turning points for healing, growth, and building a more grounded future.
